Co-designing Conservational Technologies for Iona-Skeleton Coast Transfrontier Park (Angola-Namibia)

 

The SCIONA project in the new Iona-Skeleton Coast Transfrontier Park of Namibia and Angola recently came to an end. It successfully contributed to ecosystem monitoring by co-designing technologies with NUST students and local communities. The project was implemented by the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) in cooperation with the Instituto Superior De Ciencias De Educacao Da Huila (ISCED) and funded by the European Union (EU). This video showcases the Transfrontier Park and gives an overview of SCIONA activities over the past and a half years.

Faces2Hearts in NAMIBIA: Scientists are trying to get Angolan giraffes back home!

EU-funded SCIONA project together with Giraffe Conservation Foundation are working on tracking movement of Angolan Giraffes which found their home in Namibia after 80s. This way they want to understand those animals better so later they can find a suitable environment, where they could reproduce the population in Angola.

 

 

Drone videos in Iona National Park

The largest national park of Angola, Parque Nacional do Iona, is a remote wilderness area that does not receive many visitors. The following drone images provide a view of the area between Espinheira headquarters and Salondjamba, the northern entrance gate:
